PURPOSE:To make the reaction area of electro-chemical reaction equal to or larger than the direct contact area of an electrolyte with an electrode via an electrolyte chamber by inserting a porous membrane between an electrolyte chamber spacer inserted in the chamber and the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A porous membrane 18 is inserted between electrodes 1 and 2, and an electrolyte chamber spacer 5, thereby causing the infiltration of an electrolyte through the membrane 18 and the cell reaction thereof even at a position locally in contact with the surface of the spacer 5 opposing a pair of the electrodes 1 and 2. As a result, the effective reaction area of the cell reaction becomes large and osmotic pressure due to the infiltration of the electrolyte through the membrane 18 antagonizes the pressure of reaction gas. Hence, the porous membrane 18 forms a BPB (bubble pressure barrier) retaining the reaction gas pressure. |
