PURPOSE:To effectively produce a molded body which is capable of checking deformation and obtaining wettability with molten metals by molding the molded body from the mixture of reinforcing fibers and the powder of an organic silicon polymer, melting said polymer in a warming fluid to obtain an intermediate and calcining the same. CONSTITUTION:The mixture of the reinforcing fibers and the powder of the organic silicon polymer are packed into a mold and the inert gas warmed to the prescribed temp. is introduced into said mold to melt said polymer. The molded body is the cooled and the fibers are mutually stuck together by said polymer to mold an intermediate. The intermediate is furthermore calcined in an inert atm. and said polymer is changed into silicon carbide to obtain the fiber molded body. In this way the calcination of the fiber molded body and the covering the surface of the fibers with silicon carbide can be executed in the same stage and the fiber molded body can tightly be stuck together by silicon carbide.
