NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [R<1> and R<2> are substituted phenyl or (substituted)naphthyl; the phenyl or naphthyl expressed by R<1> may be used as R<2>]. USE:A synthetic intermediate for 6-aryloxy-1H-pyrazolo[1,5-b]-1,2,4-triazole-type magenta coupler useful for a silver halide color photographic material. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced according to the reaction formula by reacting a 3,3-dihalogenoacrylonitrile with a substituted phenol or (substituted)naphthol. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as sulfolane or DMSO preferably at -20-+150 deg.C especially at room temperature - 100 deg.C.
