PURPOSE:To prevent a discharge lamp from being increased in its external size as well as preventing its shield body from being seen from the outside so that a sufficient shielding effect may be realized by arranging the shield body inside an external bulb provided with a phosphor layer. CONSTITUTION:Partial ultraviolet rays are intercepted by a shield body 9 to form an area of shade, but the rest are scattered inside a bulb 1 and dispersed on a phosphor layer 8 so that a lamp can radiate visible rays of light with even brightness as a whole. In addition, a shield body 9 formed in the configuration of meshes is arranged inside a bulb 1 and can not be seen from the outside. Therefore, its excellent appearance may be secured without much difference from that with no arrangement of the shield body 9. Furthermore, the total shape thereof may not be enlarged because the shield body 9 is not arranged outside the bulb 1. An electrodeless discharge lamp with high shielding effect for radiation noise and an excellent appearance with its small size can be obtained in this way.
