PURPOSE:To enable the quick charging of a storage battery by specifying the capacity of a conductive material except the core material thereof in an unformed paste type cadmium negative plate, and satisfying a specific condition in combination with a specific nickel hydroxide positive plate. CONSTITUTION:In an unformed paste type cadmium negative plate, the total of cadmi um and nickel powder volume is made equal to or less than 25% of the total volume of an active material, with a cadmium compound converted into beta-structure Cd (OH)2. And the negative plate is combined with a nickel hydroxide positive plate wherein the Co compound weight of bivalent or more oxidization numbers contained in the active material is equal to or more than 2 mol% for the total of layers of a Ni com pound of bivalent or more oxidization numbers and the Co compound. Furthermore, the theoretical capacity of Cd (OH)2 having the larger polarity of charging reaction in the active material of the negative plate is so made as to satisfy one of the formulae I and II where Cn is total theoretical capacity, Cn (a) is the theoretical capacity of Cd (OH)2 with large charging reaction polarity and Cn (b) is the theoretical capacity of Cd charged. According to the aforesaid system, quick charging becomes possible. |
