In a two-phase (acid and methane phases) process for producing biogas the substrate to be treated is fed to the first reactor space (1), where it is heated by a heat exchanger (2) to a temperature above 37 DEG C. In the second reactor space a heat exchanger (6) holds the temperature under 37 DEG C. The temperature gradient ensures the flow between the two spaces without stirring.
