PURPOSE:To easily recognize the motion of the user of an electronic pedometer and, at the same time, to improve the accuracy, by separately counting and storing the numbers of walking steps and running steps. CONSTITUTION:Detection signals which are the output of a running/walking sensor 21 are selectively supplied to a blind zone processing circuit 24 for walking or blind zone processing circuit 25 for running in accordance with the operation of a running/walking switching button 23 operated by means of a switching circuit 2 and become signals shaped to one pulse per one step of running or walking. Since the optimum blind zone time can be set in corresponding to walking or running in such a way that a longer blind zone time t1 is set for walking because chattering contained in the output signal of the sensor 21 is relatively slow and longer in the case of walking and a shorter blind zone time t2 is set for running because the chattering contained in the output signal is relatively fast and shorter in the case of running, the detecting accuracy of this pedometer for running and walking is improved.
