A control system for a press line contg. several presses for performing successive operations on the same workpiece comprises several computer control units each of which controls movement of a press and associated workpiece transfer mechanisms via repetitive automation cycles. A synchronising signal is produced at a common predetermined point in the automation cycles of the units and supplied to each mixt. from a reference unit. The automation cycle of each unit is increased or decreased according to whether its synchronising signal is leading or lagging the signal from the reference unit.
