833,296. Making lined cartons. CHRISTENSSON, O. V. Sept. 13, 1957 [Oct. 1, 1956], No. 28890/57. Class 18. In apparatus for producing collapsed lined cartons the liner is formed from a web fed from a store roller 41 to a folding and welding section 46 which forms the web into a flat tube-like form and to a hollow roller 58 with orifices connected to a vacuum source which transfers a severed portion of the lining web to a blank. Projections 12 on an endless conveyer 11 engage the lowest blank 13 in a stack 10 and deliver it to the pre-folding section wherein endless straps 18, 17, 19 and 20 passing over inclined rollers assisted by folding plates, fold two sides of the blank along crease lines, projections 35 on strap 34 re-synchronise the movement of the blank with the apparatus and convey the blank between glue applying rollers 39, 40. At a selected position during the movement of the blank, a brake 54 holding the lining web is released and the hollow roller 58 coupled to the suction source is rotated to present the lining to the blank delivered by the strap 34 ; the requisite amount of lining being severed by a knife on the roller 59. The sides of the blank are folded over on to the tubular lining by straps 61, 64 passing over axially inclined rollers 65, 66, 67 and 68 and corresponding folding plates. Rollers 69, 70 apply pressure to assist the setting of the glue and the collapsed are finally delivered by straps 72, 73 to conveyers 80, 81, The feed of the web is assisted by a roller 47 engaging the lining web and driven at the same peripheral speed as the roller 41.
