PURPOSE:To automatically decide a proper printing and exposing condition for the kind of films whose characteristics are different by obtaining the film characteristic of the kind of the films, comparing the film characteristic of the reference kind of film with the film characteristic of the kind of a film which should be printed and printing by correcting the printing and exposing condition based on the compared result. CONSTITUTION:When a film is printed based on the printing and exposing condition of the reference kind of film, the film characteristic of the kind of the film is obtained and the film characteristic of the reference kind of film is compared with that of the kind of the film which should be printed, based on which the printing and exposing condition of the reference kind of film is corrected so as to execute printing. Namely, an exposure corrected value decision means 42 computes the exposure corrected value based on the film characteristic of the reference kind of film and that of the kind of the film which should be printed from the film characteristic decided in a film characteristic decision means 36. Thus, a negative under and over exposure can be printed with high quality and management with respect to the variation of characteristic can be facilitated since the printing condition is only one.
