PURPOSE:To attain correct reading or writing at all times by providing a detector detecting whether or not a magnetic recording medium is along with a prescribed part of a guide. CONSTITUTION:A detector S to detect that a side 3 of a magnetic card 1 is scanned in parallel with a bottom face 12 of a guide slot 11 while bringing into contact with the bottom face. That is, when the side 3 of the magnetic card 1 is brought into contact with the bottom face 12 of the guide slot 11 at the position of the detector S, the detector 3 is turned on and a detection signal is outputted. When the detector S is turned on, the side 3 of the magnetic card 1 is brought into contact with the bottom face 12 of the guide slot 11 and in parallel in many cases. When the detector S is turned on, the data to a magnetic stripe 2 of the magnetic card 1 is written by a magnetic head 1 synchronously with an output clock pulse of a clock pulse generator 20. Thus, the correct reading or writing in a manual scanning type magnetic reader/writer is attained.
