PURPOSE:To perform a head positioning process with high efficiency by referring to a table to obtain a physical track address and the physical sector value in response to the logical track address pointed out by a seek head command. CONSTITUTION:In case only the physical track addresses and the physical sector value parts are stored in a logical/physical conversion table 11 in response to (m) pieces of logical track addresses, a logical/physical converting means 12 obtains the physical sector value and then a physical track address against the logical track address given from a seek head command. When the table 11 stores the physical track addresses and physical sector values corresponding to all logical track addresses, the logical track address given by the seek head command is used as it is for reference to the table 11. Thus the seek head command is carried out at a higher speed.
