Antibiotics CL 1565A (I), CL 1565B (II), and CL 1565T (III) were produced by fermn. with streptomyces ATCC 31906. Thus, a preculture was inoculated into 160 gal medium (pH 6.5) contg. whey 35, dextrin 1.5, and pharmamedia 1.5wt.% and incubated at 24↿C for 5-7 days with agitation and aeration. The broth filtrate was chromatographed on HP-20 resin, eluting with 8:2 H2O-MeOH. The eluate was concd. with MeOH. The ppt. was dissolved in H2O and mixed with PrOh. The ppt. was purified by several chromatog. steps to yield 180mg (I) as its Na salt. The CL 1565s have fungicidal and leukemia-inhibiting properties.
