PURPOSE:To keep a thermal transmitting characteristic of a thermal transmitting pipe for a heat exchanger, improve machining workability and further improve safety reliability by a method wherein the cylindrical inner surface of an outer pipe and the cylindrical outer surface of an inner pipe contact each other through a metallic fine wire or a woven item of fine metallic wire. CONSTITUTION:A part of a clearance 3 is filled with a metallic fine wire 4 wound helically around the outer surface of an inner pipe 1 and at the same time the inner pipe 1 and an outer pipe 2 are contacted with each other through a metallic fine wire 24. A size of the clearance 3 between the inner pipe 1 and the outer pipe 2 depends upon the maximum diameter size of a metallic fine wire 4. The metallic fine wire 4 may also act as a spacer for keeping the clearance 3 between the inner pipe 1 and the outer pipe 2. Heat transmittance in a radial direction in the double heat transmitting pipe, in particular, a decreased heat transmittance caused by the clearance 3 between the inner pipe 1 and the outer pipe 2 is compensated by a presence of the metallic fine wire 4. A passage for gaseous component generated by leakage as well as for a leaked fluid is assured and so it is possible to make an early detection of cracks of the heat transmitting pipe which might occur during an operation of a high-speed breeder reactor.
