PURPOSE:To detect contents of a reproduced picture simultaneously with recognition of an error state by setting an error-corrected reproduced picture signal to the low level and setting information of an error detection picture element to the high level to simultaneously display them. CONSTITUTION:In the case of error display, the control signal from a terminal 16 is set to the high level, and a picture signal whose voltage is divided by resistances 7 and 8 is generated when a switch circuit 9 is turned on. This attenuated signal is supplied to an input terminal (a) of a switch circuit 10. Values of resistances 12 and 13 and the DC voltage from a power terminal 11 are so selected that the level supplied to the connection point between resistances 12 and 13, namely, an input terminal (b) is the white level. Consequently, the circuit 10 selects the white level from the terminal (b) when the output signal of an AND gate 17 goes to the high level in accordance with the error picture element at the time of error display operation. Thus, error is displayed with a white dot over the reproduced picture set to the low level on a monitor when the picture signal from an output terminal 15 is supplied to the monitor.
