PURPOSE:To easily understand the meaning of a translated sentence and to prevent an erroneous translated sentence from being provided to a person in assuming it as a correct one by adding information useful for understanding the translated result together with the translation of the surface of the sentence according to the instruction of a user. CONSTITUTION:When an inputted sentence is translated according to a grammatical rule in a grammatical file 6 and the translation is completed, the translated sentence as a result is stored in the translated sentence area in a main memory 4, and it is displayed on a display device 2. Then, when the instruction to the display of an explanation sentence is inputted from a keyboard 1, the information useful for understanding the translated result stored in an explaining dictionary file 7 is read according to the instruction, and it is displayed on the display device 2 together with said translated sentence. In such a way, the information useful for understanding the translated result is added, thereby, the translated result is easily understood and the erroneous translation is not provided to the person as the correct one.
