PURPOSE:To surely transfer a message by telephone, and to improve the convenience of a device, by connecting a line to a telephone set, when a switching signal is inputted in accordance with voice information, and shifting to facsimile reception, when said signal has not been inputted. CONSTITUTION:When a call signal detecting part 34 detects a call signal, a switching means 33 is operated and a line is switched to a MODEM 20 side. A CPU drives a voice output means 23 and sends out a message, for instance, 'please dial No.2 if you desire a conversation by telephone', etc., to the other party side through the line. When the other party side send a switching signal in accordance with voice information, the means 33 switches the line to a telephone set 24. When the switching signal is not received within a prescribed time, it is decided that the calling side is a facsimile equipment, and a facsimile communication is executed in accordance with a communication procedure by an advice of CCITT. After the communication, OFF (switching to the telephone set 24 side of the line) of a sending-out/switching means 33 of a switching instruction signal is executed, and the processing is ended.
