PURPOSE:To pick up the characteristics of a material, to be imaged by controlling the light emitting amount of a light source based on the light emitting amount. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 24 reads the data of light emitting time stored in a RAM 26. A light source driving part 28 is turned ON through an I/O 27. A light source device 10 is made to emit light. The image of a material to be inspected 14 is picked up with a TV camera 11. Then, the CPU 24 checks whether the counted result with a clock signal agrees with the data of a light emitting time or not. When the result agrees with the data, the light emission of the device 10 is stopped. Then a video signal, whose level is adjusted, is sent to an image-signal processing part 21 from an amplifier 20. A measured signal and measured data are generated in the image- signal processing part 21. Since the video signal has a level corresponding to the light emitting time of the device 10, the processing part 21 can process the signal in the normal mode even if the processing procedure and the threshold value are made constant. Therefore, when the light emitting time is set, the device 10 emits light only during the corresponding time. In this way, the level of the video signal can be made constant only by determining the light emitting time in correspondence with the contents of inspection. The characteristics of the material, to be imaged can be correctly picked up.
