PURPOSE:To facilitate the detection of corrosive gas, by forming a battery with the reactive product between the corrosive gas and an electrode on the side for detection and an electrode on the reference side, and detecting the quantity of electricity. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 1 comprising a metal (e.g., Ag), which reacts with corrosive gas in an atmosphere, is provided on the side for detection. An electrode 2 comprising a metal (e.g., Ag) is provided on the reference side. The electrodes 1 and 2 are arranged through a metal-ion conductive solid (e.g., Ag3Si). A detecting means 4 for the quantity of electricity generated between the electrodes 1 and 2 is arranged. When, e.g., SO2 is present in the atmosphere, Ag in the electrode 1 reacts with SO2, and Ag2S is obtained. A battery is formed between the electrode 1 and the electrode 2, and an electromotive force is generated. The electromotive force is detected as the value of a terminal voltage. The electrodes 1 and 2 can be formed with Cu, and the solid 3 can be formed with a Cu<+> ion conductive solid. |
