LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION

摘要

PURPOSE:To obviate the generation of strains near the boundary face and to maintain a bistable state even when no voltage is impressed so that a perfect memory effect is obtd. by using photodegradable high-polymer films for org. high-polymer films. CONSTITUTION:The photodegradable high-polymer films are used as the org. high-polymer films 3, 4 of a liquid crystal display element having the cell structure consisting in sealing a ferroelectric liquid crystal 7 between substrates 1 and 9 at least either of which is transparent and which have the org. high- polymer films subjected to a rubbing treatment on the inside surfaces. The generation of the strains near the boundary face is thereby obviated and the uniform orientation is obtd. in the ferroelectric liquid crystal phase, by which the bistable state is maintained even when no voltage is impressed. The perfect memory effect is thus obtd.
