PURPOSE:To produce the title compound substantially free from halogen, safely and inexpensively by effecting ester interchange between poly(oxyalkylene) alcohol and a carbonic acid diester followed by reaction with an amine. CONSTITUTION:A poly(oxyalkylene)alcohol (preferably prepared from an alkyl- substituted phenol and n-butene oxide, having a molecular weight of 500-10,000 is allowed to react with a carbonic acid diester to give a poly(oxyalkylene) carbonic acid ester, then an amine such as ethylenediamine is allowed to react therewith in the presence of a basic catalyst to give poly(oxyalkylene)carbamate. Since any halogen-containing compounds are not used as starting materials, the product can be used as a fuel for internal combustion engines or lubricants without anxiety of corrosion. As a small amount of the amine is used, only a trace amount of the amine remains in the product and it can be easily washed off. |
