A method of forming a polymeric matrix containing inorganic filler material comprises bringing together filler material, polymerisable material and a catalyst to effect polymerisation of the polymerisable material and form the polymeric matrix. To facililate a good distribution of catalyst within the polymerisable material, allow a rapid catalytic action, and allow a proportional reduction in the amount of catalyst required, the catalyst is fixed to the surface of the filler material prior to its contact with the polymerisable material. Various filler materials may be used. For retro-reflective pavement markings, the filler material is suitably vitreous beads with a peroxide catalyst fixed thereto by an organo-metallic coating such as a silane. |
