PURPOSE:To make quick and accurate image evaluation attainable by moving a spot in the cross direction of a phosphor at the specified speed, picking up the emission, and calculating a spot diameter from the relation between luminance intensity of the emission and travel speed of the spot. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor screen 1 is enlarged by a microscope 2, and magnifi cation of this microscope 2 and its position are set so as to cause at least one piece of stripe phosphor width to be set within the visual field. And, a luminance signal of the emission spot photographed by a TV camera 3 is subjected to sampling by a sample hold circuit 4, digitalized by an analog-to- digital converter 5, and stored in a memory of a personal computer 6 which calculates a spot diameter from the travel speed calculated from amplitude value of the stored luminance signal and a distance between sampling points. Thus, quick and accurate image evaluation can be done.
