PURPOSE:To contrive good growth of young livestock, by partially hydrolyzing a ground root part of chicory with an acid, drying and pulverizing the ground root part and adding the resultant powder to a feed. CONSTITUTION:A root part of chicory is ground into a gruelly or pasty form. An inulin part thereof is then partially hydrolyzed with an acid. The concentration, heating temperature, heating time, etc., in the partial hydrolysis are suitably determined by the ground raw material. The acid concentration is preferably 0.1N and the heating temperature is preferably 80-95 deg.C with the heating time of about 1hr. The partial hydrolysis is carried out so as to provide the partial hydrolyzate having 2-12 polymerization degree of fructose in an amount of >=50% based on the total saccharides. The resultant partial hydrolyzate is dried by a means, such as through-flow drying, spray-drying or freeze-drying, pulverized to a desired particle size and used as a feed additive. |
