PURPOSE:To perform effective stirring without decreasing the generated thrust by providing a slot of an armature core contg. an excitation coil diagonally with respect to the drawing direction of a billet. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirrer 30 is constituted of an excitation coil 303 equipped to an armature core 302 provided diagonally with a slit 301, wherein X is the direction of a moving magnetic field, FT is total thrust, FH is the thrust of a horizontal component and FV is the thrust of a vertical component. Large stirring force, i.e., washing force is obtd. by the stirrer 30 without coinsiderable decrease in the generated thrust and since the thrust FT directing diagonally upward is obtd., there is the effect of preventing the foam around the surface from being captured and accelerating the floating of a non-metallic inclusion, etc. |
