PURPOSE:To effectively prevent buckling and deformations in the width direction by giving a billet a tension in the longitudinal direction at the time of passing the continuously cast billet through a width reducing mill. CONSTITUTION:A billet 7 discharged from a continuous casting machine 1 is hot rolled with the billet 7 subjected to no cutting. In a rolling device 10, a controller 25 sets a power for a motor 31 driving a light draft thickness reducing roll 27 of a light draft thickness reducing mill 12 to a somewhat smaller value and a power of a motor 36 driving a thickness reducing roll 35 of a thickness reducing mill 14 to a somewhat larger value. Thus, a power shortage amount for the roll 27 is supplied by the roll 35 through the billet 7. In that rolling method, the billet 7 positioning between the roll 27 and the roll 35 is given a tension and the billet 7 passing through a thickness reducing mill 13 is also given a longitudinal tension to increase a width reducing amount. |
