The invention relates to a method for banding containers made of thermoplastic material raised to a thermoforming temperature, which method is of the type wherein a band 5 is placed and held in a forming chamber provided in a mould block, before thermoforming the thermoplastic container in the said chamber from above the band 5 contained in the latter. This method is characterised in that thermoplastic bands 5 are used which are able to shrink under the effect of heat and the adhesion of these bands 5 to the side wall 4 of the containers 1 is induced by using the heat coming mainly from the side wall 4 of the thermoformed container 1.
