摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the title melt-moldable polymer excellent in heat resistance and useful as, e.g., a material for super-engineering plastics, heat-resistant resins, heat-resistant films or heat-resistant paint films, having specified recurring units as essential components. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic diamine (a) comprising an aromatic thioether diamine (i) and an aromatic diamine (ii) in an amount to give a molar ratio of (i) to (ii) of 100-50/0-50 is reacted with biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (b) in an amount to give a molar ratio of (a) of (b) of 1/0.9-1.1 at 100-400 deg.C to obtain the title polymer having a glass transition temperature of 100-350 deg.C and comprising at least 50mol.% repeating units of formula I (wherein Ar is formula II or III, A is O, CO, SO, SO2 or CyH2y, y is 1-10, Y is a 1-20C alkyl, a 7-20C aralkyl, a 3-20C cycloalkyl, a 6-20C aryl, halogen or nitro, and a-d are each 0-4) and at most 50mol.% recurring units of formula IV (wherein Ar' is a bivalent aromatic residue of formula V, VI or VII, e-j are each a, X is O or S, m is 0-20, l is 0-1, and Z is CO, SO, SO2 or CyH2y).
