PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorescent lamp which is small-sized and has a distribution of brightness large in its effective length and has high illumination of a manuscript plane, by using a partition to divide a glass container into two units and to form a folded-back discharge path and next by providing the inner surface with a reflective film, which has opening parts on its both sides, with the partition centered. CONSTITUTION:One end of a cylindrical glass container 1 enclosed on its other end is enclosed by a stem plate 7 on which electrodes 2a, 2b are disposed. A partition 8 used to form a U-shaped discharge path with the electrodes mounted on both its ends, a reflective film 5 stuck having a prescribed central angle with an opening part 4 left and with this partition 8 centered, and a phosphor film 6 are provided inside the container 1. Since there is no space space between the adjacent discharge paths, this lamp can be made small as a whole. Further, lights formed in parallel by the reflective film 5 and on both the discharge paths are effectively used to obtain a long distribution of brightness and high illumination of a manuscript plane.
