PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium having excellent durability to repeated reproduction, by adding an organic coloring matter and a specified aminothiophenolate transition metal complex to a recording layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium has a recording layer comprising an organic coloring matter and at least one metal complex of formula I, II or III, wherein M is Cu, Co, Ni, Pd or Pt, each of a1-a8 is H, a halogen, CN, or an alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclic ring linked to a carbon atom on the benzene ring either directly or through a bivalent linking group, or am and am+1 (m=1-7) are nonmetallic atom groups necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered ring by combining with each other, each of b1 and b2, which are the same or different, is H, an alkyl, aryl, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, alkylsulfonyl or arylsulfonyl, with the proviso that b1 and b2 may constitute a substituent to form a crosslinked structure with the other ligand, a9 is H, an alkyl or aryl, b is Cl, Br or I, and n is 1 or 2. The optical recording medium has excellent durability to repeated reproduction. |
