PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost of an optical recording medium by patterning the org. dye itself to form tracking guides. CONSTITUTION:While the outside circumferential end of a disk substrate made of a curing type epoxy resin is perpendicularly held, the substrate is immersed in a toluene soln. contg. 2 parts (by weight) of the esterified matter of poly-P- hydroxystyrene having 15,000 average mol.wt. and O-naphthoquinone diazide sulfonic acid to form a photoreactive resin layer on the substrate. This substrate is exposed after drying. The substrate is then immersed in a 1% ethanol soln. of an azulene dye having the constitutional formula expressed by the formula I to form the patterned dye layers on the substrate. On the other hand, the substrate which is made of the same material and the outside circumferential end of which is perpendicularly held is immersed in a toluene soln. contg. 0.4% hydroxybenzophenone and 1% styrene and is dried after pulling up to form the UV absorbent layer. This substrate and the substrate formed by the dye layer are stuck to each other by an epoxy adhesive agent in such a manner that the UV absorbent layer and the dye layer face each other; thereafter, the substrate is immersed in toluene and is thus cleaned.
