PURPOSE:To detect a standard position by a simple device by forming one among a plurality of detected bodies installed onto a rotary body synchronized with an engine, as a nonuniform part different from other detected bodies, and representing the inequality for detecting the standard position by a pulse width singular point part. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of projections 1-4 are installed as the detected bodies which instructs on the angular information on the circumference of a rotary body 21 which is revolves in synchronization with an internal combustion engine, and an angular information generating means 20 is constituted by arranging an electromagnetic pick-up sensor 22 in the vicinity of the rotary body 21. The projections 1-4 are arranged in equal intervals. Each projection width angle of the projections 1-3 is made equal to form an equal angle part, and the projection with angle of the projection 2 is made larger to form unequal angle part, and the projection 2 is formed as a single point part for providing the standard position information. In an electronic controller 30, the discrimination function (f) having a plurality of pulse width time in the pulse time sequence outputted from a sensor 20 is calculated, and the standard position of the rotary body 21 is determined.
