A water-insoluble polymer powder that can be redispersed in a liquid phase is obtained as follows. A two-phase liquid/liquid system is first prepared from a concentrated aqueous solution of a solute and a solution of the polymer in an organic solvent that is at least partially miscible with water. Water is then added until all the organic solvent has diffused into the aqueous phase. The microparticles of the polymer are then washed and dried. When they are resuspended in water, they remain in the form of a pseudo-latex.
