<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the size and thickness of a detector by providing a scintillator of a single crystal of gadolinium silicate activated with the rare earth element expressed by the specific formula and a heater for the scintillator as well as a photodetector. CONSTITUTION:At least one scintillator of the single crystal of the gadolinium silicate activated with the rare earth element expressed by the formula (where RE is a rare earth element and denotes at least one element except Gd; x is of a value ranging 10<-6=x<=10<-2>) and the heater for the scintillator as well as the photodetector which detects the light emitted by the scintillator are provided. Such radiation detector formed by applying the thermoluminescence of the single crystal scintillator of Gd2SiO5 added with the rare earth element has 58 and 6.7g/cm<3> effective atomic number and density, respectively, which are smaller as compared to lithium fluoride. The size and thickness of the detector are thus reduced.</p> |
