PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer useful as a rubber composition for tires, having whole excellent characteristics of A properties, wet skid resistance and tensile strength, by coupling a polymer containing a specific amount of a styrene block having a specific molecular weight in the copolymer chain. CONSTITUTION:First, styrene is copolymerized with 1,3-butadiene by the use of an organolithium compound (e.g. n-butyllithium) as a polymerization initiator in a hydrocarbon solvent (preferably n-hexane) containing Lewis acid (e.g. diethyl ether). Then the prepared copolymer is reacted with a polyfunctional coupling agent (preferably stannic chloride) to give the aimed polymer having 10-45wt.% bonded styrene content, 3-15wt.% styrene block content of >=8 bonded styrene monomers, 3,000-15,000 molecular weight of the styrene block measured by gel permeation chromatography and 35-150 Mooney viscosity (ML1+4, 100 deg.C). |
