The connecting rod for brake calipers of disc brakes which are provided in particular for rail vehicles has two head elements 1 and 2 to which brake caliper levers are to be connected. The head elements 1 and 2 are connected to one another so as to be adjustable by a screw bolt 6. A locking sleeve 13 is mounted on the screw bolt 6 in an axially displaceable but non-rotatable fashion and interacts by means of a locking toothing 16 with the head element 1 through which the screw bolt 6 engages with a thread-free portion. A compression spring 15 loads the locking sleeve 13 in the closing direction of the locking toothing 16 and thus spreads the two head elements 1 and 2 apart from one another. In order to adjust the connecting rod, all that is necessary is to apply a degree of torque, counter to the force of the compression spring 15, sufficient to disengage the locking toothing 16, the connecting rod can thus be used as a mechanical emergency release device. The locking toothing 16 permits very precise longitudinal adjustment of the connecting rod by means of very small pitch increments. <IMAGE>
