PURPOSE:To obtain a training detector of simple constitution which is not affected by a level error by connecting a discriminator in front of an automatic equalizer in initial operation and deciding a two-phase alternating pattern by utilizing the output of the discriminator. CONSTITUTION:The discrimination result of a discriminating means 9 which discriminates which signal point is sent from a transmission side by providing a discrimination area is stored in a storage means 12 while shifted in order at intervals of phase modulation timing. While a 1st distribution area deciding means 13 decides whether or not the presence range of discrimination results stored in the storage means 12 as odd-numbered data is in a detection area, a 2nd distribution area deciding means 14 makes a decision similarly as to even-numbered discrimination results stored in the storage means 12. An overlap deciding means 15 decides whether or not the presence range of the discrimination result of the 1st discrimination area deciding means 13 and the presence range of the discrimination result of the 2nd distribution area deciding means 14 overlap with each other to detect the arrival of a training signal.
