A foldable camera comprises a movable member (5) having thereon a photographing lens (11) and a rotary shaft provided between said movable member and a camera body (1). Said rotary shaft effects a switchover of the camera between the photographing state and the folded state. A string means (10) transmitts motive power of said movable member (5). A direction-changing means (9) for said string means (10) is provided on said rotary shaft or at a location adjacent to the rotary shaft. Motive power is transmitted through said string means (10) from the camera body (1) to the movable member (5) or from the movable member (5) to the camera body (1) under the photographing state.
