A vane pump has two pump connections (11, 12) leading to the atmosphere on one end, and two lines (20, 21) leading to a working connection (19) on its other end. A first valve (13) is installed in the pump connection (11) and blocks the latter as soon as the pressure at the working connection (19) has exceeded a pre-set value, so that suction takes place from the other pump connection (12) only. A corresponding valve (22) on the working connection (19) end enables suction via only one line (20) in case of a large negative pressure. <IMAGE>
