PURPOSE:To obtain the titled pigment having clear color hue and high coloring power and useful as a blue pigment for ink, etc., by reacting phthalic acid (derivative) with urea and copper (compound) in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst and a specific aromatic polybasic acid (derivative). CONSTITUTION:The objective pigment is produced by reacting (A) phthalic acid and/or its derivative with (B) urea, (C) copper or its compound and (D) an aromatic polybasic acid and/or its derivative expressed by formula (R1-R3 are H, carboxyl or a group derived from carboxyl; when two or more groups of R1-R3 are adjacent to each other, they may form an imide or acid anhydride group by cyclization; X, Y and Z is carboxyl, a group derived from carboxyl, nitrile or X and Y or Y and Z together form an imide or acid anhydride group by cyclization) in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst.
