The laser has a resonator which is constructed as an autonomous unit, is accommodated in a tubular housing (1) and comprises a resonator body (11) with two flanges (12, 13) (which are constructed as mirror supports and are at the same time used as a terminating plate at the housing ends) and an elongated centre part (14) (which is constructed as a main electrode) as the flange connection, the second main electrode (22) being connected to the centre part via spacer elements (auxiliary electrodes 23, 24). In consequence, a laser is achieved which can be terminated in a sealed manner, with a compact construction and easy assembly. The invention is generally suitable for gas lasers, especially for CO2 lasers. <IMAGE>
