PURPOSE:To hold the flow rate of a cell suspension at an optimum value automatically in cell inspection by measuring the intensity of scattered light from a marker dissolved in the cell suspension and detecting the shift in position between the irradiation position of laser light and the position of the flow of the cell suspension. CONSTITUTION:Sheath liquid 16 is put together in a flow cell 6 so as to cover the cell suspension 17 and a fluorescent material is dissolved as the marker in the cell suspension 17. Then the laser light 18 from a laser 1 is projected as a correcting light beam which is uniform in wavelength on the cell suspension 17 through a scanner mirror 2, a lens 5, etc., and the intensity of the scattered light or fluorescent light from the marker is passed through an objective 7, a half-mirror 8, etc., and measured by a photodetector 9. Its measurement signal is sent to a signal processor 11 through a photoelectric converter 10 and the shift in position between the irradiation position of the laser light 18 as a light beam for inspection and the position of the flow of the cell suspension 17 is detected. A scanner controller 14 adjusts a scanner 15 with a processing signal from a signal processor 11 to make the positions of the laser light 18 and the flow of the cell suspension 17 coincident with each other.
