NEW MATERIAL:The 1,5-diphenyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxylic acid amide derivative of formula I (R is F-substituted 2-10C alkyl; X is H or F). EXAMPLE:5-{3-[(2,2,3,3,4,4,4-Heptafluorobutoxy)methyl]phenyl}-1-phenyl -1H-1,2,4- triazole-3-carboxylic acid amide. USE:A herbicide exhibiting excellent herbicidal effect especially against broad- leaved plants and free from phytotoxicity to crops such as rice, wheat and corn. PREPARATION:The titled compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a 2-phenyl-4-(phenylhydrazone)-2-oxazolin-5-one derivative of formula II with ammonia in an organic solvent at -10-150 deg.C, acidifying the reaction mixture with hydrochloric acid, etc., and reacting at 0-150 deg.C.
