<p>A precision capacitor for measurement purposes has a sheath-like outer electrode (2) and an inner electrode (1) in the form of a central pin. The dielectric-forming space between the electrodes (1, 2) is open in order to permit diffusion of the measurement atmosphere into this space. The electrodes (1, 2) consist of thick layers of fine gold with bare surfaces (50, 60) and are fixedly connected to each other and isolated from each other by means of a guard sleeve (3, 4, 5). The ratio of the volume of the dielectric to the surface area of the electrodes (1, 2) is at least 0.1 mm3/mm2. Surface structures less than 0.01 mm in one dimension are ignored. The measurement is based mainly on the original measurement effects produced by the gaseous dielectric, whereas the parasitic effects due to processes at the surface of the electrodes (1, 2) have a relatively small influence on changes in the dielectric.</p> |
