NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is 8-24C saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group; R' is 1-24C saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group; R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, aryl or aralkyl). EXAMPLE:2,2-Dimethyl-4-(2'-methoxy-3'-octoxy)propoximethyl-1,3-dioxolan. USE:An intermediate enabling the production of a 2,3-dialkoxypropyl glyceryl ether in high yield and purity. The ether is a novel substance useful as an emulsifier, a detergent, an oil (emollient), a self-emulsifiable lubricant, a humectant, a thickener and especially a component of cosmetic because of its chemical stability, low dermatic stimulation and high surface activity. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by etherifying the compound of formula II.
