PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of a moire stripe and to lighten the allowable width of a mechanical tolerance by specifying the distribution of a threshold in a threshold matrix. CONSTITUTION:An X address and a Y address applied to the threshold matrix 33 are respectively formed by a picture element clock 37 and a horizontal synchronizing signal 34. The respective components of the threshold matrix are taken out one by one by the picture element clock 37 and the horizontal synchronizing signal 34 and applied to a comparator 32 as threshold data. In this case, the threshold in the threshold matrix is distributed in such a manner that as the level of picture information is high, a binarizing or multiplexing means outputs the picture information as a discrete dot pattern and when the picture information is brought into an intermediate level, the binarizing or multiplexing means outputs it as the longitudinal or the horizontal line screen. Accordingly, the moire of any one direction is suppressed and the accuracy request of the mechanical tolerance is lightened.
