PURPOSE:To change the kinds of plural ruled lines at one time by obtaining the extension of a ruled line passing through a point designated by a cursor and replacing ruled line character data written on each point within the obtained extension with the designated ruled line character data. CONSTITUTION:A comparison means 8 chooses pattern generators I-III which set the ruled line modes and also decide the kinds of ruled line and distinguishes the ruled line defining the position designated within a display picture 19 by a position designating means 7 as its start position based on code information stored in a code memory 3 corresponding to said position in the picture 19. Then address contents are substituted with code information obtained from selected generators I and III by the kinds of ruled lines while replacing the address of the memory 3 with the ruled lines existing up to the position dis played by prescribed ruled line pattern for each distinguished ruled line. In such a way, the kind of the display ruled line can be changed.
