PURPOSE:To obtain a material for glasses, etc., providing permanent non-fogging properties, by adding a specific amount of a niobium-containing substance to glass such as silicate glass, borate glass, phosphate glass or germanate glass. CONSTITUTION:Glass preform for silicate glass, borate glass, phosphate glass or germanate glass is blended with 0.5-25wt.% niobium-containing substance. Then the glass preform is melted under heating to give the aimed non-fogging glass. Metallic niobium, niobium carbonate, niobium nitride, thin niobium, germanium niobium, niobium silicide or aluminum niobium may be cited as the concrete example of the niobium substance. Consequently, permanent non-fogging properties can be given without requiring a specific means such as application of non-fogging solution and used in a wide fields such as automobiles and optical lenses.
