PURPOSE:To improve fuel consumption by calculating combustion stability based on an instantaneous differential rotation between two crank angle positions during noload warming operation and leaning air-fuel ratio within allowable range of combustion stability. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 31 is provided with detected values from an air flow meter 21, a crank angle sensor 22 for detecting referential position, a crank angle sensor 23 for detecting unit crank angle, a cooling water temperature sensor 24, an idle sensor 25. etc. The control unit 31 increases basic fuel injection quantity operated based on an intake air quantity and rotation more for lower cooling water temperature, and calculates relative amount of combustion stability from an instantaneous differential rotation based on detection values of the crank angle sensors 22, 23. Then air-fuel ratio is made lean within allowable range of relative amount of combustion stability.
