PURPOSE:To simplify the whole structure and to reduce the time for grinding by providing a motion mechanism which permits high speed rotary motion of a grinding wheel and its linear reciprocating motion further reciprocating swivel motion of an optical fiber connector of grinding object and its rotary motion on its own axis to be performed by the mechanically simple plane or linear motion. CONSTITUTION:A device rotates a grinding wheel 3 in a high speed through a spline shaft 21 and a spline cylinder 22 by driving a motor while longitudinally reciprocates one time a grinding wheel head 19 by the action of a cam 38. While the device, swiveling a supporting member 4 around a swivel shaft 9 by the action of a cam 67, tilts an optical fiber connector by a predetermined angle for a surface of the grinding wheel 3 to be pressed, grinding the end face of this connector into a conical surface. Here a collet chuck is reciprocated rotating on its own axis by the rotary angle of 360 deg. or more with the axial line of an optical fiber 2b serving as the center, and the peripheral surface of the grinding wheel 3, being uniformly adapted to the ground end face of the connector held to this chuck, is always maintained to a flat surface. |
